The Canterbury Orchestra, Kent, was founded in 1953. The Canterbury Orchestra is a thriving group of enthusiastic amateur players who regularly tackle major works from the symphonic repertoire. The orchestra now meets to practise on Wednesday evenings during termtime, with the usual practice venue being the The Old Sessions House (Canterbury Christ Church University) opposite Barton Court school in Canterbury..
The Canterbury orchestra gives between 4 and 7 concerts each year
Over the past few years, the orchestra has deliberately encouraged good young players to join the orchestra and the membership currently includes a complete range of ages, from school pupils to players who have been playing with the orchestra for over 30 years: a true blend of youth and experience. The young players form a mobile population, so it follows that there are occasional vacancies, particularly in the brass and string sections, and the search for talented players is never-ending.
If you would like to play the major symphonic repertoire, call the Canterbury s Orchestral Manager on 01304 812755 or email us.
